Permalink Reply by Jason Thomas on January 6, 2011 at 7:42am Hi Kevin, We have a small "farm" in Kannapolis, NC. We just ordered our first Elderberries last night...York, and Nova. I wish I would have come across you're post yesterday...We would have ordered them from you. At any rate, we'll probably add a few more next season.
I wanted to touch base with you, seeing how you are so close. If you have any advice for a new-be, in this region...I would much appreciate it. Also, I was wondering, what kind of sun do you find they need here? I’m thinking of putting them on the west side of the house…of course, they wouldn’t get direct morning sun there.

Permalink Reply by Jason Thomas on January 11, 2011 at 10:35am Hi Jason, very cool you growing the local berries. What do you have to do to the seeds to get them to grow? I have heard they need to be stratified for a long time. Crackedcork in WV

I would like to purchase some local-ish plants. We are just east of Iredell. Can you fill me in on type, price, & when I
should plant them?
Also, our soil is mostly clay. I assume yours is too, but if not let me know-they may not do well here. I have only
tried to root elderberries from cuttings last summer. I don't know if it happened, my husband forgot & mowed them...
we will see this spring.
Thanks
